While there’s a strong trend to create a dream wedding that resembles a Pinterest board, 2016 has seen couples go one step further - adding very personal and quirky details with the aim of creating an original and more personalised event for their guests. There has been a significant shift in focus in order to create an entertaining event for guests. Think decadent cocktail hours, lawn games, and quirky, entertaining reception games to keep the punters interested, laughing and walking away from the evening merry and high on life. Couples are focusing on ensuring their wedding day reflects who they are as individuals, while showcasing to their guests that they’re also thankful for having these people in their lives, and for being there to celebrate with them.

With that in mind, there has been a significant rise of the cocktail hour or pre-reception period – gone are the days of leaving your guests high and dry, twiddling their thumbs while they wait for the reception party to kick off. Instead, guests are fully entertained from the minute the groomsmen arrive at the ceremony, until last drinks are called hazily over the band’s rendition of Closing Time. While couples are off with the photographer making the most of the setting sun, guests are entertained with acoustic musicians, hand served signature cocktails and Hors d'oeuvres, lawn games and endless photo booth props - all on show under a string of festoon lights, hanging flowers and swaying eucalypt trees. These elements all add to one of the most important aspects of a wedding celebration – the ambiance. Create a romantic feel with soft lighting - think pendant lights and bare Edison bulbs or enough candles to make the local Firie weary (…we do actually recommend keeping open flames away from foliage and loose material, and be sure to check with your venue on any open flame restrictions first!)

Metallics have made a huge comeback in the wedding world this season – but that doesn’t have to mean more diamantes, sequins and glitter than an 80s disco. For a more elegant approach remember less is more - add a pop of Metallic to your rustic theme with copper lanterns or glimpses of gold leaf on your cake. The metallic trend has definitely focused on gold, rose gold and copper over silver, and can even extend through to your catering (think a rose gold signature cocktail, or gold serving ware).
